Who we are
Ripper Cars Melbourne (ABN 41 633 738 744), a licensed motor car trader (LMCT 0013123) at 1/54 Smith Road, Springvale VIC 3171. This policy covers rippercars.com.au and the enquiries you send through it.
Questions about privacy go to sales@rippercars.com.au or +61 449 011 055.
What we collect
We only collect what you type into a form. There is no account to create and no login. Every form asks for:
- Your first and last name.
- Your email address and phone number.
- How you would prefer we get back to you — phone, email or SMS.
- Your agreement to be contacted about your enquiry.
Depending on which form you use, we also collect:
- General enquiry — your message.
- Vehicle enquiry — which vehicle you are asking about, and your message.
- Finance enquiry — the vehicle you are considering, an approximate deposit, whether you have a trade-in, your employment status, and your message.
- Trade-in and sell-your-car — your vehicle's registration and state, build year, make, model, variant, odometer reading, transmission, service history, whether finance is owing, overall condition, any damage you tell us about, and your asking price.
Alongside your enquiry we record the page you sent it from, the vehicle it relates to where relevant, and — if you arrived through an advertisement — the campaign parameters in that link (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content, gclid, fbclid), the page you landed on, and the site you came from. That tells us which advertising works.
Your IP address is read when you submit a form, purely to stop the same source flooding us with submissions. It is held in memory for ten minutes and is not stored with your enquiry.
Your enquiry is kept in our customer records on our web host’s server, where only our staff can see it after signing in, and a copy is emailed to our sales inbox so someone can reply quickly. If you send us more than one enquiry using the same email address or mobile number, we keep them together so we can see what you have already asked us.
What we do not collect
We never ask for, and this website cannot accept, your driver licence number, date of birth, income, expenses, bank account details, credit card numbers or any other credit information. If you apply for finance, that happens separately and securely with the lender — not here.
We do not build a profile of you from other sources, and we do not track you across other websites.
How we use it
To answer your enquiry, arrange an inspection or a drive, assess a trade-in or a car you want to sell us, refer a finance enquiry to a lender when you ask us to, and to meet our record-keeping obligations as a licensed motor car trader.
We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to anyone for their own marketing.
Marketing. If you have given us your details we may also send you occasional emails or text messages about stock that has landed, offers, or news from the yard. We only ever send these about our own vehicles and services.
You can stop them at any time — use the unsubscribe link in any email, reply STOP to any text, or email sales@rippercars.com.au. We’ll action it promptly and it costs you nothing. Opting out of marketing does not stop us replying to an enquiry you have actually made.
Who we share it with
Only where it is needed to do the thing you asked us to do:
- Finance lenders and brokers — when you send a finance enquiry, and only then.
- The providers who host this website and store our records.
- Our professional advisers, or a regulator, where the law requires it.
Overseas recipients
Some of the services we rely on are based outside Australia, so your information may be stored or processed overseas:
- Hostinger (servers in the United States) — hosts this website and stores the enquiries sent through it.
- Google (United States) — provides our email, so the copy of your enquiry sent to our inbox, and anything you email us, is stored there.
We take reasonable steps to ensure these providers handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, but by using this site you accept that it may be held outside Australia and that overseas privacy laws differ from ours.
Cookies, storage and analytics
This site sets no advertising cookies and runs no cross-site trackers. If you arrive through a campaign link, those campaign parameters are kept in your browser’s session storage for the length of your visit and are cleared when you close the tab. Saving a vehicle to your shortlist stores that list on your own device — it is never sent to us.
We also count visits ourselves, in total only: which page a visit started on, what kind of link brought it (for example a Facebook post or a Google search), and how often each vehicle is viewed. No cookie is set for this and nothing that identifies you is stored.
Website analytics are currently switched off entirely. If that changes, this section will be updated before it does — and your name, email, phone number and message content would never be sent to an analytics provider in any case.
How long we keep it
We keep website enquiry records for seven years. Records that relate to a vehicle sale are kept for the period the Motor Car Traders Act 1986 (Vic) and our tax obligations require, which is a separate duty.
CCTV at the yard
Our premises at 1/54 Smith Road, Springvale VIC 3171 are monitored by CCTV for the security of the vehicles and everyone on site. Footage is used only for that purpose and is released only to police or an insurer where there is a proper reason.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. Email sales@rippercars.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable time. There is no charge for asking.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if our practices change, and the version published here is the one in force.
